How We Ensure Your Website Is Scalable to Your Business
When discussing a potential website project with a business owner, Armada Digital invites them to share the primary goal they’d like to achieve by partnering with us and ask, “Why now?” More often than not, they had the intention to take action months or even years ago, but did not have the time or mental energy they assumed would be needed to embark on such a project.
A website build is not a process that business owners typically want to go through frequently, but on the other hand businesses can evolve quickly. That means it’s crucial to create a business website that is both sustainable and scalable for your changing needs.
While building a website can certainly be complex and extensive, we have found a way to make the process engaging and clarifying. Here is how the Platform-SEO program ensures we build a sustainable and scalable website for your business.
Gather Key Information Up Front
When initially designing the process for our Platform-SEO Program, one of our primary goals was to minimize the time demand on our clients while maintaining key points for their feedback. As a result, our team dedicates the first two weeks of this six-week program to “Discovery,” where we download foundational information from key individuals before moving to build the framework, write copy, and optimize the site for search engines.
The Discovery Phase includes an in-depth questionnaire and an interview-style meeting. Our clients can expect to dedicate ~30 minutes per week to ensure our team has the feedback and approval necessary to keep things moving forward.
Build for Now, and the Future
Beyond structuring the process to minimize the time demand on our clients, we also approach the website build in a way that eliminates the need to have everything figured out before starting a project like this. We begin by identifying the pages and functionalities that are the most important to have in place at the time of the website launch, while building in the pieces that many business owners dedicate as “incoming,” but not necessarily imperative.
We urge clients to think about what will be needed at launch and six months into the future, rather than viewing this engagement as their only opportunity to include it all. Common examples of this are outlined below:
Ready at launch:
- Home
- About
- Services
- Service A
- Service B
- Service C
- Blog
- Contact
Hidden at launch until all pieces are ready:
- Service D and beyond
- Case Studies
- Project pages
By communicating the ability to easily hide or duplicate pre-existing elements, we remove the pressure on the client to launch that new service before it’s really ready.
Choose Your Platform & Provider Wisely
Our emphasis on building sustainable and scalable websites is also why we exclusively work on the WordPress platform using the DIVI theme, rather than Squarespace or developing a custom theme. With this approach, our answer is likely to be “Sure!” if you’d like to add a new feature or integrate with a third-party tool. Our approach protects you from needing a developer to add or edit your own content and from having to rebuild your website every other year.
With a platform like Squarespace, you can technically export your content to a .xml file and move your custom domain name to another provider; however, you can’t transfer the Squarespace platform’s design, code, or hosting. In some cases, agencies build on a proprietary platform, and your business essentially “leases” the site from the agency.
When working with our team, however, we make it clear that you fully own the website, and beyond our initial engagement to build and launch the site, you are free to migrate the site to a different hosting provider or seek support from a different agency; no “vendor lock-in” here!
